Pollentia

Alcudia is located in the same place as the ancient Roman city of Pollentia which
means "power", You can visit the ruins and a Roman theater, in the municipal museum, you can see pieces of this era.
The city was founded in 123 BC by the Roman consul Caecilius Metellus, also
founded the city of Palma. The Roman Theatre was built the first century
and has a capacity for 2,000 people.
In 902 the Arabs conquered the island of Mallorca until 1229 it was conquered by
the Crown of Aragon. The name of Alcudia (Al-qudya) means "hill" in Muslim language.
In the year 1298 began the construction of the walls, which were finished in 1362. Outside the city, at the top of Sa Talaia (445 meters) is the Santuario de la Victoria, built in XIII century.
It was in the 50s when the construction of a power station coal, made the Alcudia population increase, and also activity at the port. In the 70s gave the city a major
boost for tourism.
